La Vie en Rose

La Vie en Rose - A pink and ethereal editorial in the heart of Melbourne

La Vie en Rose

The phrase La Vie en Rose literally translates to "life in pink", although a more accurate translation for it would be 'seeing life through rose-tinted glasses'. It's about the initial phase of falling in love with someone when everything around you seems perfect and you tend to have a positive outlook on things and appreciate everyday life's beauty that little bit more.

The space

Finding a space in which to have our shoot was probably the trickiest and most stressful part of it all! We had all our vendors aligned a couple of weeks beforehand but still had no idea where the shoot would actually take place. Until three days before!

After several failed attempts at inquiring with various venues and restaurants around the city, I finally stumbled upon Smith Street Studio. Hidden away in the back streets of the uber-cool neighborhood of Collingwood, this little studio was perfect for our shoot. It was bright enough for the look we wanted to achieve with plenty of natural light coming through. It also had just enough character but was still a blank canvas we could have fun and get creative with.

The flowers

We were dreaming of something etheral, lush, a little bit playful but yet elegant. Bek from Tremella Botanicals did the most amazing job at bringing our floral dreams to life. She not only styled the flowers but also the set thanks to the use of plynths, candles and colorful tule (which tied in nicely with the pink gowns we were using for the shoot).

She made our set look like a real-life Romantic or Baroque painting. Every little detail of her sculptural and refined installation was so thought out and seeing her at work was almost as beautiful as the final result.

The dresses

We used four different dresses from Holly Butler: Brigitte, Delphine, Grace, and Lady.

Holly designs all her bespoke dresses in her Melbourne studio. Her brand is build around celebrating all the differences that make us uniquely us, and creates gowns and dresses that make her clients feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin.

In addition to two white dresses, we also opted for two pink ones to stay true to our chosen color palette, but also as a reminder that a white wedding dress is not the only option for your special day! Whether you dare to wear a pink dress throughout the entire day, or opt to save it for as your reception dress, a pink gown makes a statement and can inject more color on your wedding day.

Holly even jumped in front of the camera at the end of our shoot wearing one of her gowns. Seeing her dancing around in one of the dresses she created with her own hands was such a joyful moment and the perfect way to end our shoot!

Thank you's

A huge thank you to all the vendors who joined us on this shoot! We couldn't have done it with every single one of you and appreciate you so much!

A special Thank You to those two ladies for planning this shoot with me, and giving so much of their time, energy, and resources to this project. Getting to meet new people and make new friends with like-minded female creatives is one of my favorite things about this job. They are both so incredibly talented and genuinely passionate about their craft. So if you're planning a Melbourne wedding and are still on the hunt for a florist and/or a dress, run, don't walk!
