A few weeks ago, I got the opportunity to get together with a bunch of incredibly talented creative women from Perth to put together a colorful and vibrant bridal styled shoot. Natalia’s (Fleur Societe) stunning blooms inspired Breanne (Cizzy Bridal) to come up with the idea for this shoot. Melissa (Lustrous Artistry) did such a great job at enhancing our gorgeous model’s – Delphine, natural beauty. Meanwhile, I got the absolute pleasure to capture the magic of it all.
We met up at Karnup Nursery which was the cutest location I have ever seen, and of course, as the houseplant lover that I am, I immediately fell in love with it. The settings were just perfect for the modern boho vibe we were going for. Here we were, in Perth, Australia, with our tiny piece of the Mexican desert and our very own Frida Kahlo. I didn’t have the opportunity to purchase any cute cactuses or funky succulent to add to my growing collection at home, however, I made a mental note to come back and go on a plant shopping spree.
This shoot was my first interaction with actual humans after the social distancing restrictions had started to ease off here in Western Australia. It was also the first time I got to shoot portraits again, and boy oh boy, it felt good! No matter how long I go without using my camera or without taking portraits, the moment I pick it up again, it’s like if no time has gone by and I remember exactly why I fell in love with it in the first place.
As the sun was going down and we were getting that beautiful, warm autumn glow, we moved inside the greenhouse to get some filtered light. The irony and the magic of this perfect golden hour glow is its fleetingness: it is the most beautiful phenomenon, but it is gone in an instant. I managed to make the most of it, however. Delphine was such a pleasure to work with as she was very spontaneous and so quick and responsive to my own directions. As a result, I managed to get a lot of beautiful shots in a short amount of time.
Sadly, the afternoon went so by so quickly and next thing I knew, my SD cards were all full, the sun had set and the nursery was closing for the day. We kept going for another five minutes, taking a few BTS photos and videos, before packing up our stuff and saying goodbye to each other. I left the shoot feeling so grateful for this opportunity to work with an amazing team of talented women, and so excited about all the beautiful shots I knew I’d gotten.
